December 1 8:00 am – 10:30 am
The December Walkabout will be at the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center at Punta Gorda’s Alligator Creek site. It will be on Tuesday, December 1st, at 8 AM. Two groups will be meeting there that morning so our birding group will meet in the screen room. The screened in picnic area is right in the parking area but set apart from the administrative buildings. It’s near the Eagle Point trailhead.
Peace River Audubon has been working on the bird blind at CHEC and with the help of several grants has been able to add bird feeders, nest boxes, and native plants. The area has been cleared for better viewing and the blind itself has been refurbished. Come and check it out! The group will stop at Freshwater Pond, take Three Lakes Trail to visit Sherman Lake, and return on Pine Flatwoods Trail which will be about 1 3/4 miles. We will be hiking through a hardwood hammock, birding a mangrove area, then returning through a pine flatwoods. Please bring water, sunscreen, repellent, and wear hiking shoes. For more information contact Phyllis Cady @ 941-286-7638 or at ps_cady@yahoo.com. The address of CHEC’s Alligatior Creek site is 10941 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda, 33955. Visit their website at www.checflorida.org. Hope to see you there!
