About the event
Jamie Reynolds, a former Florida Master Naturalist Instructor will lead our walk through parts of the 487 acres of mature pine flatwoods, hydric pine flatwoods, dry prairie, depressional marsh wetlands, and permanent freshwater ponds in southern Charlotte County, Charlotte Flatwoods abuts both the Southwest Florida Water Management preserve lands as well as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission preserve lands, creating an important wildlife corridor to the Babcock/Webb Wildlife Management Area. We may see many wetland bird species in addition to Great Horned Owls, Bald Eagles, American Kestrel, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, warblers, sparrows and an occasion Red Cockaded Woodpecker. Bobcats, deer and wild turkey can be observed roaming through the dry pairie habitats and an occasional otter in the wetter swamp areas. The primary trail is 1.7 miles.
