About the event
- Directions: Live Oak Rd doesn't have a Street Sign so directions are needed. 1900 Duncan Road is Highway 17. After passing the 2 Washington Loop Road cross roads you will see the USA Convenience Store on the right, the turn is about a mile more, look for an old dirt farm road called Live Oak Road. Turn right onto this dirt road. Drive along this road and enjoy the birds along the way....wading bird species on the left side and Red-headed Woodpecker on the right side. In 4.3 miles you will arrive at Prairie Creek Preserve and on the right is the FL Scrub Jay area. At this point, parking assistants will be on hand.
- Jason Thompson, Environmental Land Manager for the Florida Scrub Jay area will guide the 1 1/2 hour walk where you can see some of the 15 Scrub Jay Families. Ebird reports 183 species seen along the Live Oak Road and within the Preserve at the end of the road. Deer, Gopher Tortoises and other wildlife can be seen along with the wading birds, ducks and Red-headed Woodpeckers. For the list of birds go to https://ebird.org/hotspot/L620848?yr=all&m=&rank=mrec
