Purple Martin Presentation

Bill Kimber will share his knowledge as a landload for his gourd arrays in Burnt Store Marina Area. He will also share the some of the research that Jason Fischer shared last year for a PRAS presentation. Jason Fischer is the lead avian conservationist for the Walt Disney Company. According to Jason Fischer, these birds fly over 3,000 miles each year from the rainforests of Brazil to raise the next generation in bird houses throughout Florida. What you may not know is we have lost about half of Florida's martins in the last two decades.

To help reverse this decline, Purple Martin landlords throughout the state put up and manage bird houses to provide nesting habitat for this species. He is attempting to create a network of purple martin enthusiasts to help answer conservation research questions and study best practices.
