New Years Day Ollie’s Pond Walkabout Report 1 January 2023

A group of 25 early birders showed up for a foggy morning walk around Ollie’s Pond. 27 species were seen: Ollie’s Pond ebird link

Many Gray Catbirds were flying among the bushes with Palm Warblers and a few Common Yellowthroats. The Yellow-throated Warblers were busy in the trees with Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Yellow-rumped Warblers. The Great Blue Herons were building 2 nests high in the pine trees. On the pond, there were Common Gallinules, Pied-billed Grebes with a few Ring-necked Ducks. The Black-bellied Whistling Ducks were flying and whistling around the pond. We managed to see the immature Purple Gallinule.

Everybody had a good time meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends.

Thanks for coming and Happy New Year.
