Our field trip in November will be on Saturday, the 11th, to Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve East in North Fort Myers. A boardwalk meanders about 1.5 miles through wetlands, hammocks and pine flatwoods. We should see a variety of woodpeckers, warblers, vireos, and other woodland birds. Then we will have a snack or lunch in the pavilion where there are restrooms. Those who wish to continue will head to Powell Creek Preserve at 1560l Hart Road, also in North Fort Myers. We will be walking for about 1 mile around retention ponds. This trail passes through flatwoods, mesic hammock, powell creek, and old growth pines. Here we will see a good variety of shore and water birds. Wood Ducks are usually present. For those who wish to carpool, meet Phyllis Cady at 7 AM at the east carpool location at Winn Dixie on Route 17. The address is 27680 Bermont Road, Punta Gorda. You can also meet at 8 AM at Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve East. Travel south on I 75 and take Exit 143. Go east on Bayshore Rd. past the blinking light at Nalle Road and the entrance is across the street from ECHO. That address is 10130 Bayshore Rd., North Fort Myers. Please remember to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water, hiking shoes, and a snack or lunch. Hope you can join us! This field trip is free and open to the public.
