Peace River Audubon Society cordially invites the general public to an open house at Audubon Pennington Nature Park on Saturday, February 3, 2018, starting at 9:00 a.m. Audubon Pennington Nature Park is a Charlotte County Park and is managed by Peace River Audubon. Located at 1153 Alton Road, Port Charlotte, Pennington Park is a 7.9-acre conservation park that is a peninsula in the Elkcam waterway, showcasing a cypress swamp, oak hammocks, and pine flatwoods which are inhabited by resident and migratory birds and other interesting forms of wildlife such as the Gopher Tortoise.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Peace River Audubon will recognize Eagle Scout Samuel Heavener, member of Troop 13 in Port Charlotte, for his Eagle Scout project which included a total revamping of four flower beds in the parking area and the establishment of a Native Plant Garden just inside the entrance to the park’s trails. Samuel’s efforts and that of his parents and members of his project team are outstanding. Visitors to Pennington Park will also observe the results of construction by the county during the months of July and August which saw the improvement of the park’s ADA parking and the addition of an asphalt path connection into the park. Following this brief ceremony, visitors at this event will be offered guided walks through the park, these walks ending at about 12 o’clock noon.
