Please join PRAS for a walkabout down Seaboard Grade on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Seaboard Grade is a trail in the Babcock/Webb Wildlife Management Area at 29200 Tucker’s Grade, Punta Gorda 33982. We will meet at 8 AM at the pay station, then carpool to Seaboard Grade which is about a 10 minute drive east on Tucker’s Grade road. We will walk about 2 miles, round trip. The trail is high but has a swampy canal along the edge where we will look for Anhinga, herons, egrets, and smaller birds like the Common Yellowthroat. Along the edge of the canal there are tall pines and oaks where we will find woodpeckers and a variety of warblers. In the distance is a marsh where we will look for hawks, Kestrels, and other fly overs.
Please bring water, wear sunscreen, and shoes for hiking. If you are under 65 you will need to pay a few dollars at the pay station.
Although we do not expect folks out hunting on Seaboard Grade on a weekday, you can wear an orange vest or shirt if you’d like.
This walkabout is free and the public is welcome.
Binoculars will be available for day use.
