Walkabout Report 1/1/2020 Ollie’s Pond

The sun came up on a cool 2020 New Year Day morning over Ollie’s Pond. 41 people marveled at the beauty of the morning. The Common Gallinule’s were calling and a Kingfisher few by. A nice flock of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks were flying back and forth over the pond. The bird of the day was a Blue Headed Vireo, who stayed on a branch for the longest time and appeared to enjoy us viewing him. The Great Blue Herons were building their nests high in the pines. There were some Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers who were feeding along the shore. There seemed to be a family of Black-crowned Night-Herons station in the reeds around the pond.

Thanks to everyone who came and especially Tony Licata and Shannon McGinnis for assisting me for a great start to the new year.
