November’s walkabout took birders to Cedar Point Environmental Park in Englewood. With the help of Resource Manager Bobbi Rodgers, 12 participants identified a variety of birds within the shallow pond that is adjacent to the park’s entrance, followed numerous warblers flittering through the trees that are near the visitor center, walked through the extensive pine flatwoods, and checked out the mudflats of Lemon Bay. Visitors were treated with the sightings, songs and calls of 32 species of birds.
Following is the checklist of birds noted: Palm Warblers, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Common Gallinules, Starlings, Snowy Egret, Killdeer, Mourning Doves, Pine Warblers, Cardinals, Catbirds, Little Blue Heron, Boat-tailed Grackles, Laughing Gulls, Phoebe, Mockingbirds, Frigate Bird-male, Blue Jay, Whimbrel, Willets, Cormorants, Black Vultures, Turkey Vulture, Clapper Rail, Kingfisher, Brown Pelicans, Spotted Sandpiper, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Glossy Ibis, White Ibis, Osprey, and Bald Eagle.
