A group of 25 early birders showed up for a foggy morning walk around Ollie’s Pond. 27 species were seen: Ollie’s Pond ebird link

Many Gray Catbirds were flying among the bushes with Palm Warblers and a few Common Yellowthroats. The Yellow-throated Warblers were busy in the trees with Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Yellow-rumped Warblers. The Great Blue Herons were building 2 nests high in the pine trees. On the pond, there were Common Gallinules, Pied-billed Grebes with a few Ring-necked Ducks. The Black-bellied Whistling Ducks were flying and whistling around the pond. We managed to see the immature Purple Gallinule.

Everybody had a good time meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends.

Thanks for coming and Happy New Year.

Everyone is welcome to our January PRAS meeting! It has been our program with the best attendance…the overview of the Christmas Bird Count by chairman of the Charlotte County CBC, our own, Tony Licata.  It is accompanied by a slide show of all the birds seen during the count and historical data about counts through the years. This year the slide show will be done by PRAS member, Barbara Segal. Doors open at 6:15 PM for networking and refreshments…the program will start at 7 PM.  The meeting will be held at the First Alliance Church at 20444 Midway Blvd. Port Charlotte. Once again we are changing rooms so watch for PRAS signs. It’s the room to the left when you face the old entrance.  There is a canopy drive through.  The entrance has a rhinoceros head silhouette and “The Landing” printed on the door.  If you have something you can

donate for the 50/50 raffle, please bring it along, and also some dollar bills to participate.  Hope to see you there!
