It was great to see all the familiar faces at the PRAS Holiday Potluck.  As always the food was delicious, especially Mike K’s Eggplant Casserole. Our speaker was Brandon Moody, Water Quality Manager of Charlotte County.  He told us all about the research going on, testing the water in Charlotte County, and the preliminary results. He discussed what we could do to help and answered questions.  The highlight of the evening was seeing all the photo finalists and getting to vote for the winners.  There were 24 photos to enjoy, then a ballot for voting.  The results will be announced on Dec. 21st.  Good luck to

all who submitted photos! We also held a 50/50 raffle which included several prizes.  Thanks to all the volunteers who transformed the gym at First Alliance Church into a holiday atmosphere, and our PRAS president, Bren Curtis, for organizing the event and the photo contest.

It was a beautiful day for our walkabout to Amberjack Environmental Park on Dec. 13th. It was a small but friendly group and we enjoyed birding together.  Bren, our PRAS president, led the guided walk and we explored the trails and both boardwalks. We saw 34 species…including White Pelicans gliding overhead.  We also saw a Yellow bellied Sapsucker, Bald Eagle, Pied billed Grebe, Blue Headed Vireo and many others. There were several species of flowers blooming along the way.  Everyone agreed that it’s great to be out looking for birds on a sunny morning…time well spent.
