The day, Saturday 18 March 2017, started out with a Chucks-will’s-widow calling before daylight at the pay station. We arrived at the RCW nesting location as the sun rose. Shortly, two Red-cockaded woodpecker left their nesting holes with Twenty two birders waiting in the cool morning for a brief sighting.
The Blue birds and Pine warblers began flying around. A little while later a Brown-headed nuthatch posed for us to every ones delight.
It was a nice sunny day with the Brown thrasher, Cat birds and Mocking birds all singing. On our walk we were able to find Yellow-throated, Yellow-rumped & Palm Warblers, we also spotted a Parula and some Common yellowthroats.
It was a great morning to be in the Charlotte County flatwoods of Babcock Cecil Webb Wildlife Management Area.
