Field Trip Report, Morgan Park

Morgan Park Walkabout, March 7, 2017

Fifteen birders met at Morgan Park in Arcadia on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, hoping to see the recently returning Swallow-tailed Kites soaring overhead.  We did not get to see any  Kites, but some of the participants observed Wood Storks and also White Pelicans soaring on thermals with Vultures.  We heard many more birds than we saw because most of the birds were sheltering from a strong wind. The lovely little Northern Parulas are back and could be heard throughout the park.  We saw and or heard over 20 species of birds that morning.  Morgan Park will be a good place to revisit when the spring migration begins and the winds are calm.  Shannon McGinnis
